boo

It's not like Autumn back home, but we're feeling the change of season's here in Texas as well.
Tonight is Halloween and I think Tom intends on taking Em out for at least a couple houses to see how she reacts. Emma of course hasn't even had candy before so I'm thinking the loot will go to PaPa.
I on the other hand am chauffeuring for Lauren and friends so they can go see a concert. I'm hoping for a cornucopia of photo ops. I'll let you know how it goes.

Joy, Joy, Joy

I'm getting ready to start editing shots of Joy and Nathans engagement shots.

The second shot here isn't part of the series but I spotted it and thought "Wow, look how happy she makes him"...very sweet.

Like a vivid memory

I heard rumors that there were still some out there...I hadn't seen one for many years. I took it in like a sweet memory. I just watched, today was too beautiful to bother. I will remember where this place is for that blistering cold day when the wind is blowing like razors to the bone. Then I'll be back and willing to pay whatever cost for this step back in time....

Softball Jihad

Lauren has been hitting really well, and really really far. It's quite impressive actually that she has become quite a power hitter.

It was another softball weekend. As has become tradition, if Lauren plays well Daddy will buy her a tshirt from one of the vendors there. She is starting to have quite a collection of tournament t's. This weekend she hit several that made the outfielders scramble. I missed out on seeing her monster hit on Sunday but dad was so proud I think he would have popped for a couple of tshirts.

This weekend the vendor had the iseries tshirts. They are so cute. Sort of a spinoff of the ipod and iphone logo I guess. So they say things like ipitch, icatch, ihit, irun. I think I saw one store who had baby tshirts like this that read ipoo.

Am I the only one who thinks Tom and Lauren's choice of tshirts is hilarious??? Again though, my mouth ran ahead of my brain--I think I ruined the shirt for Lauren. I hope not, it really does look nice on her.

Ergonomics...

The weekend was too short. Of course they always are. We are still fighting the flu and my laryngitis is completely annoying, but I think we've turned the bend and everyone is getting better.

I'll just throw up some random photos from the weekend
Look at that beautiful red hair.

And finally...who likes Lasagna???
Emma has this awesome little orange spoon. It's ergonomic or something and shaped completely different, almost like a ladle. I wish I could find more of these, they're fantastic.

Recycled stories....

Dora grew up and is now a teen. I guess we must have learned enough spanish words huh?? So now we have Ni hao Kai-lan who teaches us Japanese words . I must be stupid though cause I didn't end up retaining more than 2 Spanish words along the way and I'm pretty sure I learned them from Sesame street.

I don't think I'm gonna do well with Japanese either. Yesterday they had "cake" and today Circle--but apparently there isn't a real word for circle so they just taught us some word for object with no flat sides. Do Japanese suck at Geometry?? The no circle thing may cause problems with this. I can already tell I won't be learning Japanese. What big eyes the little Japanese girl has.

Duck Poop....

It's dark when I get off work now. So, I have to try to shoot before going to work. On the way to the sitters house we stopped at the park and shot a couple of Emma in her Halloween costume. Oh my. This is absolutely exhausting to do by oneself. We had to park a ways off and I had her in the stroller with a stoool we used as a prop and the pumpkin and my camera and heavens.....Here are the results.

Don't let this shot fool you, Miss Thing is not walking yet. Looks like she's getting right on up doesn't it??

There are ducks at this park. I was on my knees and on my butt taking photos, and before I left both were quite wet, I'm thinking it wasn't from a lovely mist of morning dew. From there I had to go straight to work. I'm guessing I spent the day with duck poop on my butt and knees. I forgot to grab the box of tissues from the car along with everything else I was carrying so I ended up wiping her snooty face with my jacket so that ended up staying in the car today.

Good news today--I did find out today I'm being considered for a print ad. That was a pleasant surprise. Even if I don't end up doing the gig, it's really nice to know my photography is progressing to that level.

Autumn..

I don't know how I feel about the weather changing and getting colder. I don't think I'm feeling good about it. I just finished up this senior and I hope he likes the results. I'm looking forward to doing an engagement session coming up. That Will be a little bit different.

I was going to do Emma in her Halloween costume tonight, but it got dark too quick. I may try to take some quick shots before I get her to the sitters tomorrow. I am playing chauffeur to Lauren and her friends for a concert on Halloween, so I think Tom will be taking her trick or treating, or maybe they will just pass out candy to other trick or treaters.

Thought I wasn't gonna make it huh??

I am missing days on this blog, but I try to make up the photo's at least. This weekend was gorgeous, too bad the family still has the flu. We tried to get what we could done but it was just one of those weekends. Here is a photo of Tom and Emma working on getting better.
On the bright side however, Tom and I found a wonderful woman to watch Emma in her home. I was nervous we wouldn't find someone we would be happy having watch Emma. We'd interviewed people and talked over the phone to folks, but when you meet that person you just know if it's going to work out.

As a final note (cause I'm just that kind of mom to front my kid out like this)...I'm just really glad ours and the neighbors fence have metal support poles. This is what my car looks like after it hits the neighbors fence. Maybe sometime I'll show you what Tom's looked like after it hit our fence. (Yes, it's still true--only god washes my car)

80's ladies....Oh no!!

The 80's fad of legwarmers was truly a mistake of my generation, however, these little baby legwarmers are the best things ever. Little leggies are warm and colorful and easy access to the diaper. Kudo's to the mom who moved forward with that idea. (Yes, I'm assuming it was a mom, but hey, let's get serious here--we all know it was a mom)

The other great idea is also shown here--Tom calls it Baby Aushwitz, I've followed along with the more PC version of Baby Jail. I think the technical name is a baby playyard. Great for herding toys when they aren't being used and a good place to plop baby for a couple minutes if you have to walk away. Emma usually doesn't tolerate it for longer than 10-15 minutes, but aaaaaaaahhhhhh that 10-15 minutes can be a beautiful luxury at times.

Size Matters

This shot just loses impact unless it's seen in full scale. When I crop it and zoom in the shot that helps, but I miss the lines running up the wall. Actually I should have shot it yesterday when we had gray skies and the shadows wouldn't have been mucking up the shot.

Missing those blue skies....

This truck is behind my work. I always wonder if it's a knock-off of "Meals ON wheels", which sounds much more appetizing than "Meals FROM wheels". I tried googling it and couldn't come up with anything in our area..I wonder if it's a scam?? I'm so skeptical aren't I??

Most importantly though, I shot the one of the truck in the morning. We've been wet and grey for over a week now. Then in the afternoon we actually got a peek of blue skies. Of course we're grey again this morning. Someone said it was going to be a beautiful weekend, I'm crossing my fingers.

Just another pretty face in the crowd....

I tend to lean toward color photographs lately, but think this one converted better in black and white. I'll let you decide.

Sunday's Senior

Most seniors bring various prop's. This one brought his girlfriend. They were a cute couple. We got seriously rained out after about a half hour and suspect we'll be doing a reshoot over the next several weeks.

Emma 9.5

I missed out doing Emma's 9 month shots and her 10 month are impending, so I moshed them together. I hope to have them edited and posted later tonight or tomorrow in her album in my smugmug website. If you haven't been there yet it is http://www.aliceswonderland.smugmug.com/

In the meantime, here is a little tease of what we did today at a friends house. You can see Emma's curls are coming in just like her mommy used to have.

Dressing it up....

So, I've been away.

Most of you know already, but Emma has come to stay with Tom and I. We have been running around working out daycare situations and making sure we have everything we need to start the process of raising this little one. (Like our sanity) Reorganizing things to accomodate this change. I'm sure things will be exciting for a bit and then Tom and I will settle into routines we havent seen for many moons.

This is the face we love. You can tell already she is a smart alec.

And then there is a picture of Emma and Papa working on assembling a dresser, you know the ones...the boards marked A,B,C and the 87 screws and the 2 missing peices.

And Finally...It was homecoming. Lauren drove. How ironic our baby is grown and independent and now we have a new baby in the house.

Just walk away...

Well, I almost did. It was hard posting tonight and I was a hair away from not doing it. It seems priorities shift in a split second.

I think tomorrow will be easier, and the day after that. So, I'll keep posting.

Comfort Food....

Ugh, I can't beleive I'm late on my blog--6 minutes. Let's just say it coudn't be helped....But to the point of tonights blog. I'm sick. I have the flu. I'm winey and my hair hurts. (Hush up, you don't know-- my hair really does hurt. So does my skin. And I think maybe my toenails even)

I have to go to work though. We all know how it goes. Try to be dependable and save those days off for real emergency's.

So, I stop on the way in at a favorite joint of mine. Benny's Deli which is like a bagel place. He also happens to serve the best and most amazing tomato basil soup ever with home made bagel chips to float into the soup. This is what made me happy today.

Birds of a feather...

This is a stock photo I have from back at the butterfly exhibit. It's all I could muster still being sick.
I wish I felt all happy and colorful like this picture, I feel more like the dead little bird that is on our back deck table ( no lie) . I picked it up from the ground and put it on the table. It was still alive and had flown or been blown into the window and must have broken something. I wasn't throwing something alive in the garbage. I do wish someone would throw him away now.

Basket Case

I have the flu. I'm tired and cranky and I left work a couple hours early. I didn't take any new photos today, but did wrap up editing those senior photo's I took a bit ago for Gaby. I wonder why I didn't notice the sign while we were there.

Garbage Pail Kids

Back in August I introduced you to Ericka and her belly. Well, lookie what she brought me to photograph today. Yes, this is actually a trash can. What do you think??

Yeehaw!!

Did photo's today for a little girls first birthday. I call it a huge success!! (For those who know her, this is Nakyla's daughter, Chloe)...The first photo shown is one second before she went facefirst into the boggy water below. No, I'm not lying..Thank goodness CPS wasn't there to see that. Her full album is in my smugmug if your interested in peeking.

Cry Baby...

Spread the diaper in the position of the diamond with you at bat. Then fold second base down to home and set the baby on the pitcher's mound. Put first base and third together, bring up home plate and pin the three together. Of course, in case of rain, you gotta call the game and start all over again.---Jimmy PiersalOn how to diaper a baby

I tried to take Emma's 9 month photos today and we had no success. Oh well, we'll hopefully try again before the weekend is over. .

Domo Arigato Mr Roboto....

Remember that song?? Classically brilliant stuff. This however, is unrelated.

I spotted this in my 7-11 this morning. Japan tricked us with the Power Rangers, Pokemon and all this Manga stuff and now this. Domo is apparently some character off a comic book (per Wikapedia) which has just a ridiculous story line. I don't understand how it got on my 7-11 coffee.
