Bereft of Thee...(354)

As you can see the past several days posts have been from a local cemetary.

This is a very old cemetary, from the end of 1890 through the beginning of 1900's. There are a lot of stories here. It was quite cold however, so we didn't explore for long.

This one photo is not very good, but the words seemed to have stuck with me. A 19 year old boy. Born in 1885 and died in 1904 just a couple days after his birthday. 'Desolate is our home, bereft of thee'. Words just aching with pain. I wonder what happened.

I was attracted to the 3 stones lined up, symmetrical as it were. I took the shot from afar and never actually approached the stones. It wasn't till later at home, that I zoomed in and found 3 infants all born the same parents. Each about a year after the other. Very sad. I wonder if they stopped trying to have a child after this or if they finally had a baby who survived child birth.

This last was also interesting. Some person, barely literate, took the time to hand mark this stone. Such a sign of poverty...as well as love and honor.

I use to love to walk around the cemetaries here in Savannah when I first moved here.
